Gearing Up For Holiday Shopping

Like it or not, Nov. 1 marked the start of the Christmas season for many shoppers and advertisers. That means you're likely seeing tons of ads aimed at the holidays as shoppers flock to stores in search of sales and travelers plan their upcoming trips.  Keep in mind that we have a shorter holiday season this year with fewer days between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Many consumers are starting their shopping earlier this year, according to a report by Survey Monkey. Three in ten consumers (29%) say they plan to start shopping earlier than they did last year with 39% having already started in October. But 42% of Gen Z shoppers say they're just getting started this month, in November.

The biggest shopping days will be in late November with 68% of Americans saying they plan to take advantage. Gen Z is the largest demographic shopping on Black Friday with 65% compared to 54% of Millennials and 49% of Gen X. Plus 42% of shoppers say they'll do some buying on Cyber Monday.

Plus, Gen Z is reportedly planning to spend 37% more this year than last, marking the biggest increase in spending of any generation, according to PwC's Holiday Outlook report. But Millennials will remain the biggest spenders out of any generation. The same report shows Gen Z and Millennials are leading the charge in sustainable shopping habits, with tendencies to purchase resale and used products.

In the meantime, a survey by Allianz Partners shows that domestic travelers in the United States plan to head to Chicago this year. Our lovely city made top 10 domestic destinations for Thanksgiving travelers this year, meaning there will be an influx of traffic from tourists. Allianz Partners generated their top 10 list by looking at 750,000 itineraries!

With those key dates and trends in mind, it's time to start planning your DOOH advertising strategy. GreenSigns can help with tons of billboards along the busiest thoroughfares in Chicagoland, all with sustainability in mind.
